Salary Range: $38,000
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
(will involve evening and weekend hours as needed)
Screening Date: January 13, 2014 (continue until positions are filled)
Start Date: March 10, 2014 in Manhattan KS for orientation and training. Report to Ecuador around March 24, 2014.
The purpose of this position is to provide Intensive English instruction to young adults through the REACH Language Program in Ecuador. The instructor will be responsible for guiding ongoing assessment, implementing a rigorous curriculum for the development of the English language using a communicative and cognitive approach in order to prepare the young adults to reach a B2 level of language proficiency on the TOEFL. The instructor will live and work on the “YACHAY” City of Knowledge campus in housing provided at no cost to the faculty for the duration of the program.
The instructor will have to exercise independent discretion and judgment in grading and meeting with the students in his/her sections of the program. Complete curricula will be provided to the instructor; however, he/she will be responsible for instructional practices within his/her classroom, including, but not limited to, those relating to classroom management, student behavior, attendance, submission of assignments, collaboration and communication with other instructors, and assessments. The instructor must be able to make independent, and often immediate, decisions regarding instruction, students, and any issues that may arise on a daily basis.
The primary duty of the instructor will be to conduct the classroom instruction, assessment, grading, and return of student work in the Intensive English courses offered during the Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions of the Program. Instructors will be expected to collaborate with one another frequently in professional learning communities to share their experiences, provide support, ask questions, and make recommendations for any curriculum refinements and renewals. Each instructor will be responsible for providing progress reports to the Program Director and “YACHAY” Executive members as required.
Other duties will include, but are not limited to, participation in and possible coordination of special activities designed to increase the students’ use of English in the non-classroom setting; conducting office hours during the evening and/or weekends as necessary; assisting students with locating additional learning resources; monitoring student progress through multiple assessments; and providing clear and consistent communication to the Program Director on a weekly basis.
- Degree: Masters in Education or related field
- Experience: 3 years of teaching experience
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to work and live in Ecuador a minimum of 6 months, maximum of 12 months, with opportunities for longer terms based on teaching evaluations and program renewal.
- Must have a valid passport and no international travel restrictions.
