Sessions I and II (Morning)
What’s it Really Like to Coach? – Mr. Ray A. Boese II
This presentation will give you some solid ideas of how coaching aids your teaching and makes your job more rewarding. It will also explore the challenges of coaching and the impact of coaching on your personal life.

Heart to Heart, Hand in Hand
– Mrs. Joceylyn Dunmire
After 32 years of experience in teaching Elementary School and Early Childhood, Mrs. Dunmire will share an overview of successes and failures she has observed in building Parent-Teacher relationships. You will also learn guidelines for team building.

Become a Wizard of Resources
– Mrs. Sheryl Plattner
Future teachers will learn about various resources that will enhance their instruction. Mrs. Plattner, an 5th grade reading and writing instructor, will talk about tips for locating the money needed for your classroom.

Brain Compatible Instruction – Mr. Rick Reed
Students learn best when instruction is guided by an understanding of how the brain works. This presentation by a secondary political science instructor will center on educational strategies that are interactive and effective.

New Teacher Panel
– Ms. Katie Clendenen, Mr. Shiloh Dutton,
Mr. Benjamin George, Mr. Peter Wetzel
This group of recent graduates includes both elementary and secondary teachers who will discuss their experiences in their first years of teaching and provide advice for future teachers in a questions/answer session.

Graduate School and Getting a Masters Degree
– Dean Carol Shanklin Should you consider graduate education in your future? Opportunities to advance your knowledge and skills through graduate education will be discussed. Graduate programs and how to prepare a competitive application will be presented.t

Hause Creativity Lecture (Kansas Teachers of the Year)

Jigsaw Puzzle – Teaching to the Standards – Mr. Ed Corman
During this presentation, Mr. Corman, a gifted teacher as well as an English and History teacher, will share how to teach the most important things to students while dealing with the standards that teachers are required to meet.

The Interview Process/Landing the Job . . . Now What? – Mr. Bill Ellis
With an occupation of high school principal, Mr. Ellis knows what schools are looking for in prospective teachers. You will learn everything from interview tips to what happens between the acceptance phone call and the first day of school.

Juggling the Inclusive Classroom
– Mr. Chris Kemp
Teachers today must juggle a variety of concerns while dealing with students. This session will focus on those aspects as well as finding ways to relate to diverse students as individuals.

Authority Figure vs. Best Friend
– Mr. David Rankin
How should you relate to your students? In this presentation you will learn how to connect with your students and build your classroom around trust, respect, and compassion.

Identifying and Lifting Low Self-Esteem Students
– Mr. Timothy Rarick
Low self-esteem can be a problem whether you’re teaching in Kindergarten or at the college level. Mr. Rarick, an instructor at K-State will give a background of how low self-esteem develops. You will also learn how to recognize and help these students.

Making the Connection – Classroom Management

Mrs. Connie Stilwell
Effective classroom management is a key factor in making learning possible. In this session you will learn how to use proactive strategies to manage issues before they distract learning. A teacher of 35 years will share components of the management system that created structure and developed interdependence among students in her classroom.
