Kansas Structured Literacy Professional Learning Opportunity
The Kansas Board of Regents is announcing a new ten-module, self-paced structured literacy professional development opportunity for P-12 educators that includes a stipend for public school educators.
The ten literacy modules cover the five pillars of reading instruction: phonics, phonological awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and include syllable instruction, morphology, syntax, language/vocabulary/semantics, assessments/interventions, and writing. Three additional modules are available on English language learners, special education, and dyslexia.
This opportunity is available to educators in all grades and content areas. Through the KBOR grant, teachers will be paid a $500 stipend to participate in the modules and develop classroom application learning activities. Modules open July 10 and teachers must submit their lesson plans, activities, and self-reflection documents by Aug. 15.
- The first 1,250 registrations are eligible for the $500 stipend. Priority will be given to public school educators.
- Higher education professionals are encouraged to participate, but only licensed Kansas teachers with Kansas positions in 2023-2024 are eligible for the stipend.
- You will receive a certificate of completion that you can use to document your professional learning with your local PDC.
- Approximately 15 hours will be needed to complete the modules.
