Welcome to the Summer GEO Program at K-State

The Summer Global Education Odyssey (GEO) is a free 5-day program from June 16-21 designed to encourage and inspire high school students to pursue a future in an education field. The camp, which features a global perspective on educational studies, furthers the K-State College of Education's mission of "Preparing educators to be knowledgeable, ethical, caring decision makers for a diverse and changing world."

Who Should Attend?

The Summer GEO Program is open to Kansas students entering grades 11 or 12 in August. Students of all genders and abilities are welcome to attend Summer GEO.

What Will We Do?

K-State faculty, staff, and students will host a variety of hands-on activities that relate to their specialized fields within education. Topics include: studying abroad & teaching abroad, educational policy, teaching licensure, global consulting, and much more. The College of Education will also plan events during the evenings and down times that highlight life as a Wildcat. Students will stay overnight in the residence halls and eat at the dining facilities, all while experiencing what it's like to attend K-State. A male and female K-State staff member will be present in the Residence Halls with the students, and emergency numbers will be provided for after-hour concerns.

Housing & Dining

Program participants will be housed in residence hall rooms (double occupancy) at Kansas State University's Wefald Hall.

All meals from dinner on Sunday to lunch on Friday are included in the registration fee. Snacks are provided during the morning and afternoon sessions, as well as in the residence halls in the evening. Guardians are welcome to join their students for lunch in the dining hall on Friday for $10 per person.

We recommend participants pack the following items:

  • XL Twin Sheets, blanket, & pillow
  • Toiletry items (including a towel and flip flops for the showers)
  • At least one pair of tennis shoes
  • Comfortable clothing for 5 days (as well as at least one "active" outfit)
  • Swim suits + sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Medications
  • Electronics & chargers
  • Cash for incidentals (optional)

Transportation & Parking

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Manhattan campus of Kansas State University. Residence halls are within walking distance of on-campus activities. Transportation with licensed and trained drivers will be provided to any activities off campus.

Parking permits are required for all vehicles parked on the K-State campus. They are not required for drop-off/pick-up at the residence hall, however, they will be needed if the driver plans on attending the closing showcase on Friday (where K-State Admissions will be present to offer help with applications, scholarships, FAFSA, and more). Parents/guardians are welcome to attend the showcase as well as the sessions by K-State Admissions on Friday.

More information about parking on the K-State campus is available at www.k-state.edu/parking.

Registration Process

Register using the link below and email the 3 completed consent waivers to mmarston@ksu.edu. Registration is currently and is limited to the first 20 qualified juniors and seniors. Full releases describing individual activities can be found below (as well as on the registration form).

Within one week of the application deadline (no later than May 20th), applicants will be notified of their acceptance status (accepted, waitlisted, denied). Then, as the program start date approaches, Summer GEO will email participants with more information and next steps. We recommend adding K-State representative Mary Marston (mmarston@ksu.edu) to your contact list to avoid having our emails go to your spam folder.
