Sports Performance Coaching Certificate
The coaching certification program is open to students who plan to coach at the middle and high school level after graduation. The Kansas State High School Activities Association accepts the K-State College of Education coaching endorsement as a substitute for the American Coaching Effectiveness Program, which is currently offered through the KSHSAA educational program.
Program Requirements
Any student interested in the College of Education Sports Performance in Coaching Certification Program should take the following 12 hours of course work:

EDCI 300 – Principles of Coaching Sports Performance
Principles of Coaching Sports Performance is designed to provide coaches with physiological, psychological, and kinesiological principles needed to be an effective coach. Topics include, training and conditioning, motivation and psychological factors affecting sport skill in performance, mechanical principles underlying sport performance, and sport development and organization.

FNDH 320 – Prevention and Recognition of Athletic Injuries
Principles and practices of treatment, taping, and care of minor athletic injuries.

EDCI 301 – Methods in Coaching and Officiating Sports Performance
Coaching and Officiating Methodology class is designed to provide students with the skill needed to organize and develop a quality sports program. Students wishing to pursue a career in officiating sports will be given information to accomplish this goal.

EDCI 588 – Supervision in Coaching Sports Practicum for Athletic Coaches
This course is designed to assist potential and future coaches in gaining actual coaching experiences working under the guidance of practicing coaches and university supervisor by combining the theoretical and practical aspects for athletic coaching at any level. This experience will provide students with an opportunity for professional growth through a required field component and related seminars. Students will be afforded an opportunity to apply what they have learned in their course work and prior experience in an actual coaching setting under the cooperative guidance of a head and/or assistant coach mentors and a university supervisor.
