Meet Ava Gregg

🎓 Major: Elementary Education

➜ Why did you choose K-State and major in elementary education?

I wanted to attend a college where I felt I would have the resources to help my faith flourish. I knew St. Isidore’s Catholic Student Center here was really known for that.

I’ve always had a passion for helping people, and teaching is a really great avenue to do that. I also earned a coaching certificate. I grew up as a competitive swimmer and was always passionate about coaching alongside teaching.

K-State has classes, a coaching practicum and lots of guest speakers from the Manhattan area who coach, so it was a great fit for both of my passions.

➜ How are you involved with campus organizations?

⭐ Working in the College of Education as a student recruitment assistant really helped me get involved.

⭐ Being a College of Education ambassador has connected me with even more education students.

⭐ I’m also part of the leadership team at St. Isidore’s.

➜ What advice would you give to someone considering K-State?

I would tell them just to say “yes.”

I was unsure about coming to K-State because it felt big, and I didn’t know if that was something I would like. But taking opportunities when they’re presented to you is so helpful.

You’re going to make connections, gain experiences and find your people.

➜ What’s the atmosphere like in the College of Education?

The College of Education is special. Whether it’s the dynamics of our classes, how we’re set up in groups or the professors themselves, the whole College of Education is very friendly.

It provides a lot of opportunities for collaboration and makes you feel connected.

➜ What’s one of your favorite memories from K-State?

My favorite memory is the first time I went to St. Isidore’s for 9:09 Mass.

I met one of my best friends and my current roommate there. It was really great, and it helped me meet a lot of people that night who are still some of my closest friends today.
