Meet Madison Loomis

➜ Why did you choose K-State?

I was born and raised a Wildcat. My mom and my grandparents went to K-State, so I’ve always loved the K-State environment and community.

When I visited K-State, I toured the College of Education and immediately felt at home. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, and I knew K-State had a great education program.

➜ Why did you choose elementary education?

I’ve always dreamed of being a teacher. My dad and grandma were teachers, so I got to see the impact they made on kids.

I want to make that same kind of impact on students, just like my teachers did for me. I also want to be a safe spot for kids because you never know what they go home to.

➜ How are you involved across campus?

As soon as I got to Manhattan, I wanted to get involved because I knew that’s where I could make friends. I didn’t have many friends from high school coming to K-State, so I wanted to put myself out there.

⭐ I immediately found Christian Challenge and got very involved. I joined a life group and have met so many friends through it. It’s been one of the biggest blessings at K-State.

⭐ I’m also a student worker in the College of Education for the Center for Student Success. I get to connect with people and build deeper relationships with my colleagues and others throughout the College.

➜ What advice would you give your younger self?

Be bold and ask questions.

I’m not a super outgoing person, so I would tell myself to put myself out there. Get jobs on campus, attend activity fairs and step outside your comfort zone.

That’s really how you build relationships with your peers and colleagues. Stick up for yourself and be bold.

➜ Is there a faculty member who has impacted your K-State experience?

Lindsey Thyer, my academic advisor, has been amazing.

She tells me exactly what I need to do and is always willing to answer my questions. You can walk into her office anytime, and she’ll be willing to help.

She encourages students to take leaps of faith and step outside their comfort zones.

Overall, the faculty are super helpful and will do anything for you. They want to help you, and they want you to be successful after you graduate.

➜ What sets K-State apart from other universities?

The family created within K-State is great.

Specifically within the College of Education, they really get to know you and form relationships. It’s just a great school.

It feels like home.

➜ What are some of your favorite memories from K-State?

K-State football games are always great. My family comes up to tailgate, and it’s so much fun. I always hope the team wins, but the games and tailgating are fun whether the ’Cats win or lose.

I’ve also made so many memories with my friends, like going out to Manhattan Hill and watching the sunset.

Those simple moments with friends are some of my favorite parts of being a Wildcat.
