➜ Why did you choose K-State and major in elementary education?

When I first came to explore campus, it was for Future EDCATS Day. The College of Education did a wonderful job of welcoming me and making me feel seen — not just as a potential student, but as a person and a young adult.

During high school, I taught kids how to ride horses, and that experience introduced me to the world of child-centered education.

Although I loved the horses, the kids were the part of the job I connected with most — and they’re the reason I’m pursuing my degree.

I love seeing the creativity and imagination kids have while helping them develop the skills they need to go out into the world and be successful.

➜ How are you involved with campus organizations?

My main involvement is with the Black Student Union at K-State.

The organization works to develop the K-State community by advancing academic excellence, political action and the leadership of Black students while promoting Black culture across all aspects of life.

It’s a massive community for me, and this group made me feel very welcome here. I love serving in leadership roles and giving back to the K-State community.

➜ What advice would you give to someone considering K-State?

Say yes to the opportunities.

K-State has genuinely made me feel like part of a real family, even before I enrolled. I feel like K-State has given me a sense of joy and peace when it comes to being a college student and thinking about my future career as a teacher.

K-State pushes for unlimited opportunities, and I think that’s one of the most important things to look for when deciding where to go to college.

➜ What’s the atmosphere like in the College of Education?

It’s rare to enter the College of Education and find someone you don’t know or someone you can’t have a quick conversation with.

I truly feel seen — not only as a student, but also as a person.

The curriculum is structured so that the longer you stay, the more connections you make and the more relationships you build.

➜ What excites you most about becoming a teacher?

I love interacting with a wide range of people and students, so teaching is the perfect way to do that.

I’m excited about creating a safe, positive and comforting environment where students can show up every day.

School can be overwhelming and tiring, but it’s something that everyone experiences. If I can go out and make it a positive experience for my students, there’s nothing more powerful than that.
