Advanced Programs for Licensure
A licensed teacher in the state of Kansas can add an endorsement to their license. A licensed teacher may have an endorsement in a specific content area which validates that the teacher is qualified or knowledgeable in that area.
Licensure recommendations are initiated through the college's Center for Student Success and Professional Services. The College of Education will recommend individuals for licensure who satisfy program requirements and pass the corresponding Praxis content test for teaching, education specialist, and educational leadership.
Teaching Endorsements for Kansas Licensure
- English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement
This nationally-recognized 15-credit hour endorsement program is designed to help teachers learn new strategies for working with culturally and linguistically diverse students, and to assist students in continuing to make academic progress while they learn the English language. - Kansas Endorsements in Special Education
The Kansas special education endorsement can be granted to teachers for elementary or secondary special education preparation. The endorsement programs for high incidence or low incidence special education may lead to a master’s degree in special education.
Specialist Licensures
- Reading Specialist Licensure
Reading specialists serve and positively impact a large number of children and young adults and provide support and intervention for struggling readers. Special licensure requirements exist for PK-12 school teachers of special reading classes in Kansas. After completion of this 18-credit hour program's requirements, in conjunction with a master’s degree, will make you will be eligible to apply for a Kansas Reading Specialist endorsement. - School Counselor Licensure
School counselors are integral to the educational system. This 60-credit hour program is an accredited education specialist's degree in school counseling leading to school counseling licensure as well as a license professional counselor in the state of Kansas.

This 36-credit hour endorsement program qualifies you to be a PK-12 building principal in Kansas. - District Leadership Licensure
This 52-55 credit-hour endorsement program qualifies you to be a PK-12 school district superintendent in Kansas.
