Secondary Education Bachelor's Degree

Social Studies Education

Field Experiences
Students engage in supervised field experiences examining selected aspects of teaching and the learning environment, including students and learning, content and pedagogy, planning, instruction, and professionalism.
Bachelor of Science in Education Curriculum
Candidates preparing to seek grades 6-12 teacher licensure concentrate studies in three areas:
K-State Core
Courses in communications, humanities, social sciences, quantitative sciences, and natural sciences provide the prospective secondary teacher with broad content background. A teacher is, first of all, a well-educated citizen. The general education portion of the program is directed toward this goal.
Teacher Education Program Requirements
The professional portion combines education coursework with hands-on classroom experience, covering teaching methods, educational psychology, technology and supporting diverse learners. A full-semester student teaching internship provides guided experience in a secondary classroom.
Content Studies (Teaching Field)
Secondary teachers prepare in one or more content areas, with in-depth preparation required in at least one teaching field. The College of Education offers secondary education degrees for most teaching fields, with collaborative licensure programs available for music, family and consumer sciences, and agriculture.
Professional and Educational Service Hours
The professional development component requires 40 hours of service focused on professional growth and service to the profession, as well as educational service to youth and families or caregivers.
